Alexander Chudek memorial

Alexander Chudek RAF ace with 10 victories, shot down by the FLAK on June 23, 1944.

Arriving in England on June 27, 1940, having fled Poland following the Soviet invasion after the non-aggression pact between Nazi Germany and the Red Army, he was posted to the RAF as a courier for new and repaired aircraft. In 1941 he was transferred to the No. 55 Operational Training Unit and began training on the Hurricane. In July of the same year he was posted to the No. 315 Polish Fighter Squadron on Spitfires, and a few days later, on August 14, 1941, he shot down his first aircraft.

In '43 he was posted to No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron, before flying from England to Normandy, from where he never returned...
