5th Armored Division Memorial. The Sherman M4A4 "Renard" participated in the liberation of Kientzheimon December 17, 1944. On December 18, it confronted a Panther PzKfw V, severely hit and on fire it managed to fire against the Panther and killed its pilot. The pilot of the "Renard", André Soubeyran, and his gunner, Auguste Proux, went on foot to take the crew of the enemy tank prisoner. The Panther was recovered by the d'Avout squadron, and renamed "Kaysersberg" before finally breaking down near Lauterbourg on April 04, 1945, never to be engaged against the Germans.
