On June 6, 1944, the date of D-Day, the 5th Battalion, U.S. Army Rangers landed on Omaha Beach near Vierville-sur-Mer under intense enemy fire.
Responding to Brigadier General Cota's historic order "Lead forward Rangers" the 5th Ranger Battalion with companies A B & C of the 2nd Ranger Battalion advanced towards the enemy fortifications led by General Rommel's strongest troops.
The passage of the Rangers gave the troops of the 29th Infantry Division a chance to infiltrate and, in turn, pave the way for the liberation of France.
Dedicated to our fallen comrades by the WW2 Ranger Battalion Association, the Citizens of Normandy and the 5th Ranger Battalion, this June 6, 1984.
