Monument PFC Charles N. DeGlopper

Charles Neilans DeGlopper was a U.S. Army soldier, who posthumously received the Medal of Honor, the U.S. Army' s highest honor, for his heroic actions and sacrifice of life. Colonel Harry Lewis sent the 1st Battalion,across the Merderet to attack the Fière Bridge Despite the darkness, under fire, Company C of the 1st Battalion was cut off from the rest of the battalion. Private First Class Charles DeGlopper stood up and began firing his Browning automatic rifle at the Germans in a diversionary action to relieve the battalion. Although wounded and bleeding profusely, Private First Class DeGlopper continued to fire. Meanwhile, the rest of Company C was able to rejoin the battalion.
