On July 21, 1944
From the road tunnel at Saillans (monument) tothe bridge at Espenel (here), the maquis Pons (10th Cie) gave battle, left and right bank of the river, to the Germans mounting the assault from the Vercors.
In retaliation, the enemy burned the village of Espenel.
