Sabotage December 21, 43 Pontaix

Informative sign of the December 21, 1943 sabotage.

On the night of December 21 to 22, 1943 on the railroad track lateral to the road a group of Résistants sabotaged the Paris-Briançon line railroad at Vercheny, derailing a train of German permissionnaires.
In retaliation, the enemy arrested 57 men from the villages of Barsac, Pontaix, Sainte-Croixand Vercheny: 37 would not survive deportation to Nazi concentration camps.
