Near this spot 14 soldiers of the 9th Infantry Division on reconnaissance, encountered a group of German soldiers at 11 a.m. on June 17, 1944.
They were outnumbered, one to three.
The next day Saint-Maurice-en-Cotentin and Barneville-Carteret were liberated by the 9th Division. Four years to the day after being occupied, the Contentin was free.
