Higgins Boat Monument

Monument depicting three American soldiers from 1944, the Korean War and the Vietman War, respectively, disembarking from a replica LCVP invented by Andrew Higgins, whose statue stands just a few meters away. Andrew Higgins, engineer, founder and owner of Higgins Industries, invented and produced the barges (Landing Craft Vehicle & Personnel) that enabled soldiers to land on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Andrew Higgins was born on August 28, 1886 in Columbus, Nebraska, and died on August 1, 1952 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
