Crash Hampden AE225

Stele in tribute to the crew of the Hampden AE225 intercepted by a Messerschmitt Bf 109 taking off from Guipavas, killing the Pilot Officer Peter Gordon ANDERSON as well as machine gunners Sergeant Albert Bertram COOPER and Sergeant Donald PARKIN before crashing here.
They are buried in the Ploudalmézeau communal cemetery.

The pilot Robert BARR managed to parachute out but was immediately captured by the Germans.
The last crew member James WIGGALL seriously injured, was rescued by members of the LE DREFF family,  also captured by the Germans and was, along with his pilot, deported to a German stalag .
They survived the war and were liberated by the Allies in 1945.
