Dossen disaster

After 4 years of occupation, the Germans had left Santecin early August 1944 leaving the mine-infested dunes and beaches behind...As the mines were cleared, 3,800 death-dealing devices were recovered and stored in the garage of the hôtel Roc'h Tréas.

On September 23, 1944, at 10:30 a.m., a terrible explosion occurred... The mines had just blown up, digging a huge crater, destroying several houses, causing the deathof 16 inhabitants of the neighborhood and the German non-commissioned officer demining.
