Here began on June 9, 1944 the construction of A-1 airfield (under the code name Fry) by the 834th Air Engineers Battalion, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Livingstone. The 366th Fighter Group of 9th US Air Force commanded by colonel Holt, was based there from June 13 to August 24, 1944.
