Panorama of the Resistance

The Resistance medal has been awarded to Plougasnou for its remarkable acts of faith and courage.

With these words, the panorama welcomes you to this historic site where, thanks to the courage of a handful of men, many were able to join Free France in England.

From the shores of Plougasnou, from the ports of Diben and Térénez, many volunteers joined General de Gaulle in England to join the Free French Forces (FFL). With courage and determination, fishermen and sailors made their boats available to carry the volunteers to England, along with a few escapees fleeing the enemy.

On June 18, 1940, L'Oiseau de la Tempête left the port of Primel-Le Diben to join the Free French Forces in England, with nine volunteer passengers on board.

It docked on the English coast at Newlyn. Attached to the fishing port of Penzance in England, L'Oiseau de la Tempête worked for the Free French Forces under the patronage of Jean-Marie Hervé, from October 21, 1942 to December 11, 1944.
