Stp 141 / Morsalines battery

In 1944, the Allies landed in Normandy. However, it was from Morsalines and La Pernelle that the Germans were directing their artillery for coastal defense on the Pointe de Saire, as part of the Atlantic Wall. As a result of unforeseen weather conditions, the American landing took place fortuitously at Utah Beach, south of the programmed location at Saint-Martin-de-Varreville. This put the Morsalines batteries beyond the reach of the attackers, thus avoiding losses to the American army. It also allowed the commune to escape a heavier bombardment. Source Wikipedia
