The city of Aleth

The cité d'Aleth à St.Malo is a vast fortified complex based on an ancient Vauban fort overhauled by the occupying German. The peninsula is riddled with underground galleries stretching for some 1,500m and grouping together a set of artillery and infantry casemates, a barracks,command post and an air defense. The structure was the headquarters of Colonel Andreas von Aulock in 1944.
Around 500 people lived in this underground complex. A museum is open in the fort of the former fort Vauban, and the galleries have preserved even today, the armament of 1944.
