Saint Paul Prison

This plaque laid in 2016 corrects the Vichy government's real involvement in the deportation of Resistance fighters, Jews and Hostages interned in this prison.
On July 29, 1944, 720 Frenchmen were handed over to the Wermachtand deported on July 2 to the Dachau camp.

229 died of disease or exhaustion.
350 were liberated in the spring of 1945.
69 had an unknown fate.
One train among many, departing from Lyon for Drancy, Compiègneor from late June 44 directly to camps in Germany or Poland.
By the end of 1943, the St Paul and St Joseph prisons had become the overflow from Montluc, with the Vichy militia also filling them. In addition to the convoys, 70 executions took place in these walls between 43 and the end of August 45.
