Manoir de Beaubois

The Manoir de Beaubois, built by Joseph de Mauduit (founder of Mauduit paper mills) in 1861, housed German army HQ during the occupation. A bunker was built just behind it (QU87). On August 4, 1944, the Rosporden hostages were locked inside. They almost died of asphyxiation (only one small unventilated air intake for several dozen prisoners). This was without counting the courage of Charles Jacob, who managed to extricate himself from the building to widen the air intake. The bunker can still be seen today, just behind the town hall. It was recently opened on a Heritage Day.
