Royal Air Force Museum

The Royal Air Force Museum London, or RAF Museum, is a museum in Hendon dedicated to the history of aviation and the Royal Air Force. The museum is located on the site of a former airfield, created in 1908. The airfield was used by the Royal Air Force during the First World War, and by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. In times of peace, the airfield was the site of some aviation firsts; the world's first airmail was sent from here in 1911, and the first parachute jump from a flying aircraft took place here too. The Royal Air Force held a flypast here every year from 1919 to 1959. The airfield was closed in 1968, and in November 1972 the Royal Air Force opened its vintage aircraft museum on the site.
