Keroman submarine base

TheBase de sous-marins de Lorient, or Keroman submarine base, is a World War II complex of bunkers, located in Lorient (Brittany, France). It occupies the tip of the Keroman peninsula, in the Lorient roadstead and overlooks the Bay of Biscay. In 1946, it was renamed base de sous-marins ingénieur général Stosskopf. Built between 1941 and 1944 by Nazi Germany during the Occupation, it was then intended to house the 2nd and 10th U-boat flotillas of the Kriegsmarine, while forming part of the Atlantic Wall system.
His presence was the cause of the destruction of the city of Lorient by British and American aviations in January and February 1943, then of the late surrender of the Lorient pocket on May 10, 1945. The submarine base was taken over by the French Navy after the conflict, and was used as a submarine base until 1997. Managed by the Navy as part of the development of France's SNLE program, and for the creation of composite-material shipbuilding, the site has since been devoted to civilian activities whose focus is on the maritime domain.
