Villa Kerlilon Karl Dönitz HQ

It was in 1940 that the villa Kerlilonnow owned by the French Navy was requisitioned to become the HQ of Admiral Karl Dönitz commander-in-chief of the famous U-Boats.
This villa has a strategic position facing the submarine base. A bunker is also located under the terrace to protect the headquarters from the RAF bombings that have become insistent.
Karl Dönitz will leave the Kerlilon villa in 1942 to go to Paris, then Berlin in 1943 to succeed to Großadmiral  Erich Raeder at the head of the German navy.
In this place were developed the strategies of pack attacks (Rudeltaktik) by sending several U-boot (submarine) on the same convoy.
The naval charts of the general staff still adorn the walls of the villa.
