Maquis Bernard

Bernard maquis ambush site. Plaque text: On September 4, 1944, a German column estimated at 500 men with 4 armored vehicles headed for Montsauche. It is ambushed on the other side of this bridge by a fighting group from the Maquis Bernard. The two lead vehicles are immobilized. The fight is fierce. Sergeant Georges FAIVRE covers his group's stall. He is killed. German losses are unknown. PASSANT, it's thanks to men like these THAT YOU ARE FREE!
