Jean-Marie Hippolyte Paul Pinczon du Sel (1914-1939) was a French military aviator, lieutenant in the Armée de l'Air, pilot of reconnaissance aircraft. He died for France on October 16, 1939 at Kaiserslautern (Germany), during an air battle. He was chosen as patron by the 1939 graduating class of the École de l'Air.
On October 16, 1939, during a photographic reconnaissance carried out in the Pirmasens-Kaiserslautern sector on behalf of the Vth Army, his aircraft was shot down in air combat by five Messerschmitt Bf 109 of I/JG 53. Victory is awarded to Leutnant Hibrandt. Pinczon du Sel is killed, as is captain Henri Marie Gabriel Belbèze, observer. The chief sergeant Vergne, machine-gunner, is seriously wounded and taken prisoner. Source Wikipedia
