Le maquis d'Ornano M.P.I

Panel text:
Composed of some forty refractory members of the S.T.O, the maquis d'Ornano M.P.I was tasked with receiving parachuted weaponry.
On the night of March 21, 1944, while the maquisards were recovering equipment on the Vinchet plateau, two enemy columns encircled the Garrigue forest and occupied strategic points.
Many defenders positioned at guard posts lose their lives in this surprise attack.
However, the first shots alert the Vinchet maquisards, who manage to retreat.
The Ornano maquis was reformed at Saint-Amans de Pellagal before being integrated into the 3rd Hussars Regiment (08/09/1944), which took part in the campaigns of the Vosges and of Alsaceuntil the liberation of France.
