Juno Beach

Juno Beach is the code name for one of the main beaches of the Allied landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944 during the World War II. Its name comes from the wife of a general at the time. It lies between Sword Beach and Gold Beach, and stretches from Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer in the east to midway between the villages of La Rivière, a hamlet east of Ver-sur-Mer, and Courseulles-sur-Mer in the west. Its capture was assigned to the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division commanded by major-general Rodney Keller. It was the second best fortified beach after Omaha Beach. German General Richter commanded the 716th Division, guarding the beach with 2 x 155 mm and 9 x 75 mm guns.
