Lochrist cemetery

The Lochrist cemetery is home to the graves of 4 airmen from the Wellington X HF601 of the 466 Squadron of the Royal Air Force . The aircraft was on a mission of  mine anchoring and was shot down  by the FLAK numerous in these parts. The plane crashed into the sea and the bodies were found on Porz Liogan beach in Le Conquet.
Flying Officer Egbert Horace SWAIN, navigator, 32 years old.
Pilot Officer Albert Morgan LONG, radio operator and machine gunner, 24 years old.
Pilot Officer John Frederick RAY, machine gunner,22 years old.
Wing Commander John Jervis OWEN, pilot,35.

The body of Flying Officer Frank DARBYSHIRE was never found.
At the request of the mayor mr  Louis Simon who was also a notary, went to recover the bodies of the fourBritish airmen hastily buried by German soldiers in the sand on the beach. Guided by the latter on the mined beach, they brought the bodies back to the Lochrist cemetery where a ceremony  organized in a hurry will honor the memory of the four aviators and Frank DARBYSHIRE missing.
The German soldiers will pay them military honors.
