Pichouron family

Plaque in honor of 5 Resistance fighters from the Pichouron family. Louis Plouguielwas in charge of the underground Communist Party and the National Front in the Côtes d'Armor.

Louis Pichouron, a Communist activist, was one of the first Resistance fighters in the Côtes-du-Nord. From the end of 1940, with his friend François Boulard from Plougrescant, he set up a clandestine structure which at the end of 1941 joined the Front National de lutte pour la libération et la résistance française à l'occupation allemande. This Front National, created in May 1941, would be headed by Jean Devienne for our department. Louis Pichouron, for his part, would criss-cross the Côtes-du-Nord to set up the FTPE, the armed wing of the Front National (1941-1945).

At the end of 1942, an army of volunteers determined to drive out the invader would emerge, among them Auguste Pichouron, Louis' brother, domiciled at Kerflaca in Plouguiel. Louis' determination to resist would have terrible consequences for his entire family. Following a treason, in early 1943, Auguste, Léonie Louis' wife and Amédée his brother-in-law, also a member of the Resistance, living in Lézardrieux were arrested and joined the prisons of Saint-Brieuc and then Rennes. In 1944, they were deported to Germany. Auguste, like Amédée, was part of the tattooed convoy bound for Auschwitz, and died in February 1945 in Flossenbürg. Amédée, interned at Buchenwald, will return from the deportation a shadow of his former self.

Léonie during her transfer to Germany will be part of the last death convoy, known as the Langeals convoy, from which she succeeds in escaping to Switzerland. Jeanne, who took in Louis's children (Marie-Thérèse and Solange), pursued resistance activities (leaflet distribution, etc.)

In his book Mémoires d'un partisan breton", page 15, about Simone Bastien, a PC activist also deported to Ravensbrück, Louis Pichouron gives the following indication: - Well, all you have to do is tell her that she shows up at my house with a "Ouest éclair" in her left hand. My home is in the village of Plouguiel, there's a palm tree in front of the house and I live upstairs. With Jean Devienne, Louis Pickouran and Simone Bastien will organize the Front National in the Cotes-du-Nord.

On May 15, 1941 the underground PCF founded the Front National intended to undertake the armed struggle against the Nazi occupier. The Front National opened up to personalities from outside the PCF, such as Jean Devienne, who became its first leader in our department. This was also the case for other non-Communist Trégorois who joined the FN and the FTPF in order to resist. These FN and FTPF members joined the Comite National de la Résistance in May 1943. The FN des Côtes-du-Nord was dissolved in 1945.
