John FINN will hold position

We are at the start of the attack by Japanese forces on the Hawaiian archipelagothis December 7, 1941. Lieutenant John FINN was deployed on the island of Oahu, specifically in Kaneohe Bay.

When the Japanese attacked the island, J. FINN quickly secured a 50mm machine gun mounted on an instruction rack. He was completely out in the open in the parking lot. His position was under heavy enemy fire.

Although he was seriously wounded on several occasions he remained in his firing position, enabling him to respond vigorously to the enemy strafing.

He would only let go of his position once the order was given to go for treatment. Once the first aid had been administered, he decided to return to the aircraft parking area. No matter how much pain he was in and how difficult it was to move around, he returned to help supervise the rearming of the aircraft.
