Kerbonn battery

The batterie de Kerbonn is located between the pointe du Toulinguet and the pointe de Pen-Hir, in the commune of Camaret sur mer, Crozon peninsula, on a natural site bordered by steep cliffs and untouched by any construction. It was in 1889 that Kerbonn welcomed its first fortification, materialized by a battery of 3 mortars of 270 mm coast model 1889, then in 1891 a gunpowder magazine was built under rock and a fire direction post concreted.
From 1942 the site was transformed by the Germans into a battery under casemates facing west, but also to beat the rear of the position and contribute to the defense of neighboring works. The battery's main artillery consists of4 pieces of 164.7 K.M. 93-96 and four French-designed 75 mm Mle 1897 pieces (7.5 cm C/97 (f). Some archives classify the casemates as M270 Mod, yet the internal design of these blocks does not correspond to this Regelbau model. The fourth casemate (today's Museum) differs from its counterparts in that it has an offset firing chamber. A must-see for fortification enthusiasts.
