Stele text: On Easter Monday, April 10, 1944, at 23:41, the Lancaster ND586 with a crew of five Australians and two Britons on board had left its base in Binbrook, England, for a bombing mission on the Aulnoye railway station, located 8 km from Vieux-Mesnil, in preparation for the landing on June 6, 1944.

This aircraft belonged to Squadron 460 and was shot down by a night fighter. The entire crew is buried in the Maubeuge cemetery. Searches began in 2001 at the crash site.
In 2011, a group made up of Belgians, British, Germans, Australians and French formed via the internet, the plane was identified. Documents and the families of the victims have been found.
This place of remembrance, inaugurated on April 28, 2013, was built by volunteers and corporate donations.
