Narval submarine

A tribute to the crew of the French Navy's Narvalde la classe Requin submarine commissioned in May 1925, it joined the Forces Navales de la France Librein Malta as soon as France surrendered.
Around December 15, 1940, the Narval was lost body and soul after jumping on a mine in a minefield, off the Kerkennah Islands

The submarine commanded by Lieutenant Commander François Drogou reached Malta on June 25, 1940 after setting sail from the port of Sousse in Tunisia. She was the first submarine to join the Free French Naval Forces (FNFL).

She disappeared body and soul on December 15, 1940 off the Tunisian coast after being blown up by a mine. The Italians claimed her loss on January 10, 1941, but it is likely that the Narval was blown up on a mine laid in a French defensive minefield.

The Narval joins the wreck of her sister ship the Morse, which disappeared in the same circumstances six months earlier.

Her wreck was spotted in November 1957 by a wreck-recovery vessel. It lies in 40 meters of water off the Kerkennah Islands in Tunisia.
