French Gestapo headquarters Paris

The Gestapofrançaise de la rue Lauriston, or the Carlingue, is the name given to one of the French Gestapo's officines, set up at 93, rue Lauriston in the 16th arrondissement of Paris between 1941 and 1944, during the occupation of the country by the armed forces of the Third Reich, and responsible for numerous abuses under the direction of Henri Lafont and Pierre Bonny.

This group brings together members of the underworld, such as mobsters Henri Chamberlin aka Lafont(their leader) as well as Abel Danos and some dismissed ex-policemen, first and foremost Pierre Bonny. Their links with the occupying forces enabled them to engage in a wide range of business deals, with shady characters such as Joseph Joanovici.

They were behind the North African Legion, engaged in repression against the maquis in Tulle .

According to retired policeman Henri Longuechaud, "One can be scandalized by the figure of 30,000 to 32,000 often put forward [as the Carlingue's manpower]... In Paris, when the occupier launched a recruitment notice for 2,000 auxiliary policemen in his service, he reportedly received no less than 6,000 applications. "

The main members were tried and sentenced to death at the Liberation.
