505th PIR plate

This plaque is dedicated to the 505th Parachute Regiment of the 82nd US Airborne Division. Company D of the 2nd Battalion fought here to liberate Normandy soil. Here Company D of the Second Battalion of the 506th PIR halted the German attack and saved Sainte Mère Eglise at the cost of severe casualties.
French civilians standing by their liberators came to the aid of the wounded.
May these paratroopers who fought here and these civilians remain forever in the memory of future generations.
