NORMANDY LANDINGS JUNE 6, 1944
Omaha Beach was pivotal to the Normandy Invasion on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day, in World War II. It was one of the five landing beaches targeted by Allied Forces. American troops faced fierce resistance as they stormed the heavily fortified coast. Advance forays by Naval Scouts helped plan how to secure the beachhead. Naval Combat Demolition Units blasted beach obstacles so the troops and equipment could reach the shore. Both had crucial roles in the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation. These panels commemorate their extraordinary story of sacrifice and valor.
