Carrefour de la Résistance monument

In the heart of the Orléans forest, the Carrefour de la Résistance monument houses the grave of colonel Marc O'Neill, leader of the Lorris Maquis.
On the morning of August 14, 1944, 3 trucks from theGerman army approach the Orléans crossroads. The German soldiers surround the area, while the maquisards try to hide any compromising material.
Encircled the men are subjected to interrogation while the soldiers search the premises. It wasn't long before they found resistance armbands, leading them to be considered terrorists.
15 men are shot in the head.
The German soldiers continue their hunt for the maquisards by organizing an armored reconnaissance, but the maquisards defend themselves and the fighting rages until the evening.
