Fred Scamaroni Memorial

Godefroy Scamaroni, known as Fred Scamaroni, born in Ajaccio on October 24, 1914 and died in the citadel of the same town on March 19, 1943, was a senior French civil servant member of the Free France from 1940, hero and martyr of the Resistance.
Arrested by the Italian political police (OVRA) in Ajaccio while leading the Action R2 Corse network, he committed suicide in his cell in the Ajaccio citadel to avoid revealing anything to his Italian torturers.
