Mauthausen Memorial

The Mauthausen camp (or Mauthausen-Gusen after the summer of 1940) was a concentration camp (KZ or KL) set up by the Nazi regime of the Third Reich around the villages of Mauthausen and St. Georgen/Gusen in Upper Austria, around 22 km from Linz. On May 5, 1945, the Mauthausen camp was liberated by the U.S. 3rd Army's 11th Armored Division. By this time, most of the SS guards had left the Mauthausen camp, but 30 who remained were lynched by the prisoners. Wikipedia source
