Commemorative monument to the beaches where Allied Forces landed at Graye-sur-Mer on June 6, 1944.
Plaque text: Four years after his historic call, on June 18, 1940, General De Gaulle found the soil of the mother country on this shore. He establishes in Bayeuxthe representatives of the republican state .
He visits Isigny and Grandcamp and re-embarks on the Free French naval forces torpedo boat "La Combattante" On June 14, 1944, General De Gaulle lands here at around 1:30pm.
After greeting General Montgomery at his Creully H.Q., he heads for Bayeux, where he installs François Coulet as commissioner of the republic at the sous-préfecture.
Enthralled and acclaimed, he then moved on to the Place du Château, where he delivered a stirring speech calling for the continuation of the fight alongside the Allies, and led the crowd in singing the Marseillaise with him. At the end of the afternoon, the sorely tried population of Isigny threw flowers and listened to him, as did the fishermen of Grandcamp, whom he greeted, before re-embarking at sunset on La Combattante at anchor off Courseulles. The welcome he received and the work done by the team left behind proved the legitimacy of his provisional government and the uselessness of an allied military government.
