Monument in memory of the crew of the B17 "Cabin Heater" from the 96th Bomb Group,337th Bomb Squadron of the 8th US Army Air Force, shot down by a Messerschmitt BF109 and crashed at the location known as Launay-Robert in Clayes on May 29, 1943. Out of the ten crew members, 7 died:
★ 1st Lt Jack L McMath, pilot.
★ F/O Ernie J Dickenson, co-pilot.
★ 1st Lt William LJ Peterson, bombardier.
★ T/Sgt Lear E Godbey, radio operator.
★ T/Sgt Gerald Vernon Olson, engineer.
★ S/Sgt Raymond M Masiero, gunner.
★ S/Sgt Virgil B Gregory, gunner.
The 3 survivors were taken as prisoners:
★ 2nd Lt Edwin Albert Martin, navigator.
★ S/Sgt Arthur Shilo, gunner.
★ S/Sgt Harry J Boegaholz, gunner.
