Memorial to the American soldiers who liberated the region bearing the words
"L'Alsace reconnaissante aux soldats américains morts pour la liberté 1942-1945"
This memorial also houses the grave of Lieutnant John Grant Rahill of the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Division born January 1, 1924 in Caldwell (New Jersey, USA) killed in action while leading an 8-man patrol by mortar fire. Lieutenant John Grant Rahill had fought in the Italian campaign, notably at Anzio.
This memorial is located on a former temporary cemetery where 1093 American soldiers were buried before being transferred to their homeland or to other American military cemeteries.
