Pumetot Aerodrome B-10

This memorial, unveiled as part of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, commemorates the return of the air force to the European continent and the role of Polish airmen in the Normandy campaign and the liberation of France. The131 st Polish squadron, comprising the squadrons (City of Poznan) , 308 (City of Krakow), and 317 (City of Vilnius)302 (City of Poznan) , 308 (City of Krakow), and 317 (City of Vilnius), was based at the airfield B10 situated in the fields of Plumetot. From August 3 to September 6, 1944, these were the first units of the Polish Air Force to have a base in France. By war's end, some 19,000 airmen were serving inthe Polish Army, providing 15 squadrons to support the Allied effort in the West-the largest contribution of any country under occupation.
