Advanced Landing Ground B9

Memorial marking the location of the Royal Air Force's Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) B9.
Stele text:
As soon as D-Day arrived, to ensure the best possible air support on the ground, the Allies scheduled the construction of temporary aerodromes as close to the front line as possible. Within a few months, Normandy was covered by more than 50 platforms. Located in the British sector, the Lantheuil-Creully airfield covers 190 hectares spread over the communes of Lantheuil, Creully and Saint-Gabriel. It is home to the Canadian airmen of the 143° Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force. It was christened "Base B9" (B for British). The stele pays tribute to the pilots of squadrons 438-439 and 440 assigned to the Lantheuil base from June 27 to August 30, 1944. Equipped with Typhoon fighter and bomber aircraft, their mission was to destroy enemy bases bridges, railroads, roads radar stations. In particular, they took part in the Battles of Caen and Falaise, then proceeded forward through northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Also a stele in memory of the Typhoon  pilot of theRoyal Canadian Air Force WT Off Carl Mc Convey killed by a bomb explosion at the airfield on July 16, 1944.
