On June 12, 1944, just as Carentan had been liberated, the Air Force's 826th Engineering Battalion arrived to begin construction of the "Advanced Landing Groud A 10". With the site finally operational, the first plane, a P-47, landed on June 23. Around 3,000 people lived here.
