3rd Infantry Division Monument

Monument to the memory of the 3rd British Infantry Division who took part in the liberation of Caen.

This memorial was erected by the people of Sannerville to perpetuate the memory of the Officers and Soldiers of the 3rd British Infantry Division who gave their lives during Operation Goodwood from July 18 to 21, 1944, and in the subsequent fighting for the liberation of Europe.

From June 6, 1944 to the end of hostilities in Europe, the division lost more than 11,000 soldiersincluding 2585 killed in action, 8039 wounded and 1363 missing.
