RAF Swanton Morley

Military site off-limits.RAF Swanton Morley was created as part of the RAF's expansion plan, but was not completed until the outbreak of the Second World War. It was initially part of RAF Bomber Command Group 2 until its transfer in December 1944 to 100 Group, a unit responsible for countering German defenses against British strategic bombing.
On July 4, 1942, this base was used as the starting point for the first combined bombing raid of the war, with American and British crews. Winston Churchill and Dwight D. Eisenhower were present for this mission, which involved a low-level raid on German airfields in the Netherlands. During the war, the base was also home to the 100th Group's Bomber Support Development Unit (BSDU).
