Two of the three battalions of the 1st Parachute Brigades, facing strong German resistance, are forced to halt for the night at Oosterbeek. Lieutenant-Colonel John Frost of the 2nd Battalion arrives at Arnhem Bridge in the evening and sets up defensive positions at the northern end. Two offensives to capture the bridge and the southern end are repulsed.
