Built in 1943, the first-generation V1 site at Le Mesnil-Au-Val never had time to fire on England, and was soon behind American lines after D-Day.
These bases were spotted by the Allies on aerial reconnaissance photos, thanks to the concrete launch ramps that resembled a pair of skis.
