"This type R (Regelbau) bunker 633 was part of the German coastal defense Atlantikwall. The main armament consisted of a 50mm M19 mortar , installed under an armored steel cupola, with a range of 750 meters. The task of this type of bunker was to protect the beaches and the "Stutzpunkten" (the port of Ostend). The R 633 is the only existing example of this type in Vlaanderen. The bunker is easily accessible, and signs indicating the units can be found on the walls and inside the mortat copula. The original armored doors at the main entrance and emergency exit are preserved.
