German HQ - Château de Tailleville

During the Second World War, this castle was home to the 2nd Battalion of the 736th German Infantry Regiment. It was liberated after heavy fighting on June 6, 1944 at 8.30pm by the Royal North Shore Regiment, supported by 13 tanks from the 10th Fort Garry Horse Regiment. The park wall features embrasures through which the German defenders of the château fired. Details on Canadian government document "THE VICTORY CAMPAIGN" page 116.
