Robert BOOKER's sacrifice

April 9, 1943 in the vicinity of Fondouk, Tunisia. Private Robert BOOKER is engaged in the fighting alongside the 133rd Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Divison, faced with enemy resistance he decides to advance to the front line. Without further ado, he picks up a light machine gun and a box of ammunition and crosses more than 180 meters of totally uncovered ground.

He's alone facing him are several mortiersand two mitrailleuses, all taking aim at him.

He arrives at his objective he settles down as enemy artillery also begins to open fire on him, R. BOOKER doesn't waste a second and begins to open fire on the enemy positions.

He is wounded but manages to silence one machine gun nest, he now opens up on the other machine gun nest.

The second mortar burst will be mortal, in his last strength he encouraged his squad members and guided their fire on enemy positions. For his sacrifice with no thought for his own safety he will posthumously receive the Medal of Honor on April 25, 1944.
